STUDENT WORK DISPLAYED IN HARRISBURG
In celebration of Vocational-Technical Education Week, educational displays were on exhibit in Harrisburg at the Capitol's East Wing Rotunda on February 13 and 14, 2001. This year's theme was "Vocational-Technical Education: Bringing the Future to You Now," with an emphasis on advanced technology.
Three schools showcased special presentations following the opening ceremonies. Visitations of the educational displays began at noon and a student-oriented dinner was held Tuesday evening, February 13, 2001 at the Department of Education building. A breakfast was held on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 to recognize business and industry and vocational education partnerships.
Berks Career and Technology Center's Commercial Photography program participated in the celebration with a display illustrating immersive imaging and Quick Time Virtual Reality, which involve the use of still images to create panoramic and object movies. Students in the program, under the direction of Mr. Glenn Riegel, instructor, took photographs of various rooms in the state capitol and turned them into 360º panoramic images that can be "toured" using virtual reality software. Also, BCTC's Culinary Arts program presented teaching strategies for HAACP, the new state standards for sanitation in the culinary industry.
The essence of vocational education is achieved through applying academics and technical skills to real-life situations. Vocational-Technical Education Week offers an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding efforts of students enrolled in Pennsylvania's vocational-technical schools. Berks Career and Technology Center is proud to showcase the impressive work of its students and faculty in an effort to publicize the vitality and promise of technical education today.
