BCTC
was recently invited to participate in Career and Technical
Education Week, February 10-14, 2003. The Career Center's
Visual Imaging and Design Technology and Photo Imaging
Technology programs collaborated to mount one of 35 educational
displays on exhibit at the Capitol's Main Rotunda and East
Wing Rotunda, February 11 and 12. This year's theme was "Get
your life in gear before time runs out . . . Career and
Technical Education."
BCTC's
display featured an interactive Web page with a virtual
tour of the Pennsylvania Capitol. Using impressive imaging
technology and Quick Time Virtual Reality, students demonstrated
the use of still images to create panoramic and object
movies. Highlights of the tour included the Main Rotunda,
the Senate Chamber, the House of Representatives, the Supreme
Court Chamber, and the Governor's Reception Room. Each
featured area gave the viewer a rare and intimate glance
inside the halls of Pennsylvania government. It also provided
the viewer with an opportunity to see some of the beautiful
artwork that graces the walls and architecture that dates
back to the 1800s. Each page of the tour included still
photos showing details and exclusive views adorning the
building. Text highlighted significant works of art and
provided interesting historical footnotes.
Visitations
of the educational displays began at noon on Tuesday, February
11, and a special breakfast was held on Wednesday morning,
February 12, at the Crown Plaza Hotel to recognize business
and industry and career and technical education partnerships.
Sponsored
by the Department of Education's Bureau of Career and Technical
Education, Career and Technical Education Week offers an
opportunity to celebrate the outstanding efforts of students
enrolled in Pennsylvania's career and technical schools.
The essence of career and technical education is achieved
through applying academics and technical skills to real-life
situations. The Berks Career and Technology Center was
proud to showcase the impressive work of its students and
faculty in an effort to publicize the vitality and promise
of technical education today. |
