BERKS CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER RECEIVES 2001 EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION COMMUNICATION AWARD

The Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA) recently awarded Berks Career and Technology Center (BCTC) with an Award of Excellence. The award winning entry was a public relations/recruitment project entitled "Jump Into Your Future." The project involves a PowerPoint presentation and publication tailored to ninth grade students as they consider career and education choices.

Since students must elect to attend BCTC, recruitment is a vital aspect of enrollment management. An important component of the recruitment effort is the in-school presentations made to ninth grade students in each of the sending districts. This project, which included a PowerPoint slide show, recruitment booklet, and tour sign-up sheet, was designed to support those presentations.

Awards were presented during the PenSPRA Symposium on March 12 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. PenSPRA coordinates this annual competition and entries are submitted from educational institutions throughout Pennsylvania. The 2001 winners were chosen from approximately 193 entries from the following categories:
 

	Writer/Reporter for Education - one recipient
	PenSPRA President's Award - one recipient
	Newsletter, calendar and special purpose publication, video, Web site and public relations project - 30 Awards of Excellence
	Newsletter, calendar and special purpose publication, video, Web site and public relations project - 40 Awards of Honor

The panel of judges was composed of individuals employed in the fields of graphic design, Web development, photography, and media relations.
