STUDENT ORGANIZATION MOBILIZES TO FIGHT LEUKEMIA
Members of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) at Berks Career and Technology Center conducted a community awareness project to benefit the Leukemia Society of America. Students collected donations at BCTC-West Campus, local businesses and stores and local school districts. The project, which began in October 1999 and ended in March 2000, yielded more than $900 for the charity.
Seniors Melissa Eberhart, Governor Mifflin, Jessica Kurtz, home schooled (Wilson), Miranda Schorle, Governor Mifflin, and Shakeema Shuler, Conrad Weiser, planned and executed the "Pennies for Patients" project. To raise consciousness about their cause, the students distributed pamphlets about leukemia and created a Web site that contains information about the disease and the service project.
