BCTC STUDENT WINS
PENNSYLVANIA HOSA SCHOLARSHIP
The Pennsylvania Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Foundation
awarded 10 scholarships to outstanding HOSA students across Pennsylvania at its
twenty-third annual leadership conference held at the Lancaster Host Resort,
April 10-12, 2002. Ashlee Stone, a senior at Boyertown Area Senior High School,
was awarded one of ten $500 scholarships to pursue post-secondary education in
the healthcare profession. Ashlee is enrolled in the Dental Occupations program
at the Berks Career and Technology Center's East Campus. She plans to further
her education in the dental hygiene program at Northampton Community College in
Bethlehem, Pa.
Students in secondary schools across Pennsylvania are given the opportunity to
enroll in a health occupation curriculum to prepare future health care workers.
According to the foundation's board of trustees, there has never been a greater
need for young scholars to study health professions such as laboratory
technology, nursing, radiology technology, medical technology, pharmacy,
occupational therapy and physical therapy, just to name a few.
The HOSA Foundation in Pennsylvania was established to raise money so students
wishing to follow a career in healthcare could seek financial assistance. The
foundation is a nonprofit 501c3 corporation registered in Pennsylvania with the
Bureau of Charitable Organizations and accepts charitable contributions solely
for scholarships to benefit outstanding HOSA scholars. Investing in the future
workforce is an absolute necessity, according to foundation directors. |
