STUDENTS REPRESENT BCTC AT
NATIONAL SKILLS COMPETITION
Students from BCTC competed in national student leadership conferences this
summer and faired very well with gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Three student members of BCTC's Family, Career, and Community Leaders of
America (FCCLA) participated in the national leadership conference held in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. All three students are enrolled in the Occupational
Child Development program at BCTC's West Campus.
Josephine Goodling, a junior at Wyomissing Area High School, and Amber
Williams, a junior at Fleetwood Area High School, captured first place honors
for their Chapter Showcase Manual - Team event. Kristy Godoy, a senior at
Daniel Boone Area High School, took a silver medal for Chapter Showcase
Display. Godoy won a silver medal in the same category in the state competition
last spring.
Thirteen students from BCTC's Dental Occupations and Health Occupations
programs traveled to Anaheim, California to compete in the Health Occupations
Students of America (HOSA) National Conference. The conference provided
opportunities for the students to develop personal growth, friendship, and
leadership skills.
Three Boyertown Area High School students from BCTC's Dental Occupations
program at the East Campus captured second and third standings. Ashlee Stone, a
senior, placed second in Dental Assisting. She placed first in the state
competition. Ashley Reifsnyder, a junior, took third in Dental Laboratory
Technology. At the state competition in Lancaster, Reifsnyder placed first.
Nichole Davenport, a junior, took home third place in the category of
Extemporaneous Health Display. Davenport had three hours to design and complete
a poster based on a concept presented to her at the start of the competition.
Victoria Ohlinger, a senior at Conrad Weiser Area High School, was among the
top ten in the Speaking Skills contest. Pennsylvania students earned a total of
four medals at the National Conference; three of the medals were awarded to
BCTC students. |
