Apprentice Programs
BCTC is Berks County’s most comprehensive source for Related Classroom Training for apprentices. The curriculum is planned and reviewed annually in cooperation with co-sponsoring trade organizations and the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, U.S. Department of Labor. Classes meet 2 evenings/week starting in September. Call for more detailed information - 610-743-7630.
- Carpentry
This program is designed for persons working in the carpentry trade or seeking employment in the trade. Subject matter includes fundamentals of carpentry, applied mathematics, safety, and the use of hand and power tools.
- Industrial Maintenance-Repair
By taking this course, persons looking for a job or already employed in an industrial setting will increase their skills in all aspects of industrial maintenance and mechanical repair.
- Building Maintenance
This program is intended for persons looking for a job or for those who are currently in building maintenance positions who want to broaden their skills. The series of courses covers the basics of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and minor structural repairs.
- Electrical
Persons who want to pursue a career in the electrical trade or those already working in the electrical field as apprentices may choose this program, which is a cooperative venture of the Career Center and the Reading-Berks Electrical Association.
- Plumbing
This program is designed for persons already employed in the trade and apprenticed with a sponsoring plumbing contractor. It is a cooperative program with the Reading-Berks Plumbing Apprenticeship Committee.
- HVAC
Developed for persons who want to acquire or improve skills used in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration field, this course is a cooperative program with the Reading and Berks Plumbing and Heating Boards.
- Dental Assisting
This program offers an opportunity for those individuals seeking a career path in the dental profession to earn accreditation by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training in Pennsylvania. The classroom related training include Basic dental services, preclinical dental skills, clinical dental procedures, review of dental specialties, dental practice management and employment strategies, and ethics and jurisprudence.
