Health care technicians serve as vital members of the health care team in
clinics, physicians’ offices and hospitals throughout the United States. The Health Related Technology program provides state-of-the-art equipment and the tools needed for hands-on laboratory experiences. This program integrates
theory as well as the application of skill proficiency in the areas of Medical Laboratory, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiology, Respiratory Therapy and Holistic or Alternative Therapy. The program is designed to provide a strong foundation in documentation, medical terminology and hands-on applications. Certification in CPR, first aid, and AED is available to each student. Maintaining college prep math and science is a requirement.
The core curriculum includes an introduction to health care, infection control, safety and emergency procedures, ethical and legal responsibilities, nutrition, normal body functions and common diseases, patient care, human growth and development, rehabilitation, office procedures, medical laboratory procedures, radiology skills, physical and occupational therapy procedures, respiratory
therapy procedures and basic techniques for alternative therapies.
During the educational experience at the Berks Career & Technology Center, students will have the opportunity to
experience first hand, real life health care situations within a variety of health care settings.
