Teacher: Michael Stein, West Campus
Graphic designers use their skills to design pleasing visual artwork to sell
products or services. The course is designed to teach skills in creating visual images utilizing appropriate computer software for drawing, layout and analysis in a state-of-the-art digital design studio. Students will have the opportunity
to work on real projects for outside non-profit clients to gain valuable real
world experience.
The program will cover the following topics: fundamentals of computerized design technology, principles of typography, principles of color, product
production procedures, principles of basic photography, principles of graphic design, fundamentals of illustration, products of graphic design, products of web design, electronic illustration, processes of image manipulation, fundamentals of page layout, introduction to web design, introduction to web programming, web design graphics development, fundamentals of web animation, and project
production management. Enrichment topics include interactive/video graphics development, camera systems, action photography, electronic flash techniques, portrait lighting techniques, filter and film applications and product and
illustration techniques.
When students graduate, they will have a complete portfolio of work that will aid in seeking entry-level positions in the graphic design and commercial art fields or for entry into a design focused major at a post-secondary institution.
