"Retool the School" Project is Complete
Berks Career and Technology Center
recently completed a $34 million renovation project than enlarged and
completely modernized the East and West Campus facilities. As part of
the expansion, which was completed in Fall 2001, the following five new
programs were introduced: Printing Technology, Computerized Machining
Technology, Protective Services, Heavy Equipment Technology, and Computer
Information Systems-Networking.

Existing buildings have been modernized and some new construction has occurred.
In addition, the renovation included new technologies for each of the school's
34 program areas. Input from businesses and industry
representatives who serve on occupational advisory committees ensured that
the new equipment and training facilities would match or exceed the
technology used by Berks County employers today.

Many significant improvements were made to the instructional labs. For
example, the Graphic Communications Center was enhanced with a
state-of-the-art printing laboratory with four-color press, electronic
pre-press, and desktop publishing hardware and software.
In the Allied
Health program, a radiovisography apparatus and intraoral cameras were
purchased to enhance instruction. Using these units, instructors are now able
to present microscopic areas of the mouth and body on 27"
monitors.
A computerized auto frame straightener was installed in the Automotive
Collision Repair Technology lab. Students are now able to learn all aspects of
frame straightening applications on equipment that is used in the industry.
The "Retool the School" project helped to position the Career Center as one
of the premiere technical education facilities in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. To see for yourself, please call us to arrange for a tour.
