This has been a wonderful school year at the Berks Career and Technology Center. Our students and staff rock! The staff and I continue to be impressed with the immense work ethic and accomplishments of our students. Test scores and industry credentials of our students are proof that BCTC is a top Pennsylvania career and technology center. I often refer to industry credential attainment as more important than grades to employers. Don’t get me wrong, good grades are important; however, industry credentials, skill attainment, attendance and attitude on the job are what is most important to employers. Our seniors leave BCTC with no less than two industry credentials and are “College and Career Ready” when they graduate.
BCTC is accredited by the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools (through 2025) and we recently went through a reaccreditation for the International Service Organization (ISO) 9001 along with attaining the latest ISO standards approvals (2015). Neither accreditation is state mandated, but both add value to BCTC and increase student achievement. Additionally, our staff have mastered using data effectively for continuous improvement and this equates to high performance in the classroom.
As a technology-driven school, we saw the need to focus a lot of attention into updating our website this year. To help showcase the new site and be more economical with our printing, this edition of the Career Connections Newsletter is more compact with QR codes to drive readers to the website. Please visit BerksCareer.com today and often, to see the latest and greatest happenings at BCTC.
Congratulations to our 2018 seniors! We are so proud of your accomplishments. You are role models for future classes of BCTC students and we expect to hear great things from you. We wish you the best in your future.
Looking ahead, the 2018-2019 school year will be the 50th Anniversary of BCTC. We have many activities in the planning stage to celebrate the role BCTC has played and continues to play in the Berks County region. Our activities will include opportunities for alumni to return to their alma mater with family and friends and maybe even see their former teachers. You can connect to 50th Anniversary activities via our website or the BCTC Facebook page.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
