For Pheonyx Halstead, a student in the Service Occupations program and from Tulpehocken Area High School, this summer has been about more than gaining work experience—it's been about building confidence, developing leadership skills, and preparing for a bright future.

As a summer co-op student with BCTC's custodial department, Pheonyx plays an important role in keeping the West Campus clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors. His daily responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, wiping down desks and tables, vacuuming floors, removing cobwebs, and completing general custodial tasks throughout the building. Every task he completes contributes to creating a positive learning environment while reinforcing the value of responsibility, teamwork, and taking pride in a job well done.

Pheonyx's commitment to BCTC extends beyond his co-op experience. As a Student Ambassador, he welcomes prospective students and their families, shares his personal journey, and helps others discover the opportunities available through career and technical education. His willingness to represent BCTC demonstrates the confidence, professionalism, and leadership he has developed during his time in the Service Occupations program.

Pheonyx credits the program with preparing him for success in the workplace. After finding the career path that best matched his interests, he has embraced every opportunity to learn new skills and gain real-world experience. Whether he's working alongside the custodial team or speaking with future students, Pheonyx continues to grow personally and professionally with each new experience.

As he begins his senior year, Pheonyx is keeping an open mind about the future while considering a career in hospitality. Whatever direction he chooses, he knows the skills, work ethic, and confidence he has gained at BCTC will help him achieve his goals.
