🛠️ Our favorite day of the year is almost here!

The machines are calibrated. The hydraulic fluid is topped off. The blades are sharpened. The labs are stocked. And the classrooms and shops are ready for what matters most: our students.

Monday marks the first day of the 2026–2027 school year, and we’re ready to welcome students back to BCTC!

Soon, our shops and classrooms will once again be filled with students building, creating, repairing, designing, problem solving and learning new skills.

New projects. New challenges. New opportunities.

💪 Hard Work Doesn’t Take the Summer Off

Pheonyx, a Service Occupations student from Tulpehocken Area High School, has spent his summer putting that mindset into action through a co-op with BCTC’s custodial team.

From cleaning classrooms and preparing spaces to helping keep the building safe and welcoming, Pheonyx has been learning the value of responsibility, teamwork and taking pride in a job well done.

🌡️ We’re Hiring: HVAC/Refrigeration Instructor

BCTC is seeking a motivated HVAC/Refrigeration Instructor to prepare the next generation of skilled technicians. This role centers on creating a hands-on, engaging learning environment while mentoring students toward graduation, career readiness, and industry success.

Qualified candidates will bring real-world HVAC/refrigeration experience, strong technical and communication skills, and the ability to deliver engaging, lab-based instruction in a safe, well-equipped learning environment. Pennsylvania Department of Education certification in Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration Maintenance Technology (or eligibility to obtain certification) is required, along with a minimum of four years of full-time wage-earning industry experience beyond training.

Today, we officially welcomed our staff back for the first day of in-service as we get ready to kick off the 2026–2027 school year!

The halls are getting busier, classrooms and labs are getting ready, and the excitement is starting to build. There’s still plenty to do before students return, but one thing is for sure... the first day of school will be here before we know it! 👀

🔧 Summer Work. School Year Ready.

Asher, a Building Construction Occupations student from Fleetwood Area School District, spent his summer helping BCTC get ready for a new school year through a co-op with our Maintenance Department.

From mowing and groundskeeping to replacing ceiling tiles, assisting with lighting projects and helping install a new water heater, Asher has been learning just how much goes into keeping our campuses running.

☀️ What did you do this summer?

Pam, a Mechatronics Engineering Technology student, spent hers gaining hands on experience through a co-op at East Penn Manufacturing, working alongside technicians to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment.

The experience builds on a big year for Pam, which also included representing BCTC in Electronics at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference.

After eight years of keeping BCTC running and bringing a positive outlook to every day, Mr. Mike Benjamin has retired from his role as a Maintenance Mechanic.

Much of Mr. Benjamin’s work happened behind the scenes, but his impact could be felt throughout our campuses. He was a friendly and familiar face who approached challenges with optimism, always finding something positive in every situation.

His helpful nature and upbeat presence made him a valued part of the BCTC community.

After 11 years of encouraging students, supporting instructors, and helping keep each day moving forward, Mr. Joe Miller has retired from his role as an Instructional Assistant at BCTC.

Mr. Miller spent much of his career supporting our Carpentry and Cabinetry & Wood Technology programs. He was a steady presence in the classroom and shop, helping students stay focused, work through challenges, and continue growing in both their skills and confidence.

His support made a meaningful difference not only for students, but also for the instructors and staff who worked alongside him.

After 11 years of teaching, mentoring, and cheering on his students, Mr. Tom Danner has retired from his role as BCTC’s HVAC/Refrigeration Instructor.

He was always eager to celebrate their successes and welcome alumni back into the program, giving current students the opportunity to learn from graduates who had built careers in the HVAC/R industry.

After 15 years of preparing students for careers in the electrical trades, Mr. Ted Semanchick has retired from his role as BCTC’s Electrical Occupations Instructor.

Known simply as “Mister” to his students, Mr. Semanchick was a well-respected and much-loved presence in the classroom and shop. Along with his industry knowledge and experience, he could always be counted on to have a smile on his face and a joke ready to share.

The respect and admiration his students had for him reflect the lasting impact he made throughout his career at BCTC.

This year, BCTC celebrates 10 retiring staff members who have given more than 165 combined years of service to BCTC, our students, and career and technical education.

We begin by recognizing Mr. Kevin Heimbach, Diesel Technology Instructor, who is retiring after 31 years of dedicated service to BCTC.

Mr. Heimbach was the very first instructor of BCTC’s Diesel Technology program, building it from the ground up and helping shape it into the hands-on, industry-focused program it is today. Through his leadership, experience, and commitment to the trade, he has prepared generations of students with the skills, confidence, and work ethic needed to succeed in the diesel industry.

For more than three decades, Mr. Heimbach has made a lasting impact on his students, his program, and the BCTC community. His dedication will continue to be felt through the many graduates whose careers began in his classroom.
